Since the release of her first full-length album in February of 2008, Laura Marling has experienced a reasonable amount of exposure. The 19 year old Brit’s Alas I Cannot Swim was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2008, and her name has been linked with bands such as Noah and the Whale and Johnny Flynn & the Sussex Wit. When listening to her songs, it’s clear that there are strong folk influences, but Marling’s “My Manic and I” goes beyond the cliché singer-songwriter into a darker, more haunting piece of music, while "New Romantic" shows her sweeter side. Plus, there's something so endearing about her singing in a British accent.
Before she embarks on a tour in the UK, she has planned several shows in North America, and her show in Boston and her second in New York City have already sold out. Marling will be serenading Brooklyn on October 20th at Music Hall of Williamsburg (for the Brooklyn Vegan showcase) and Philadelphia on October 21st at World Café Live, so go see her!
