For me, it took just a few seconds from hitting play, to cracking a smile, to loving what I was hearing, to feeling the need to jump out of my chair and dance. I have got to say that Pretty Lights is pretty much one of the best things I've heard come out of electronic music since 2000's Since I Left You by The Avalanches.
The music is a seamless blend of nostalgia and future. And that's the other thing. It's not just some club thumping mindless bang your head and wave your arms dance tune. It's thoughful, well composed, carefully considered and passionately produced music.
Pretty Lights Hails from Colorado and is the creation of Derek Vincent Smith. He plays spectacular live shows with his drummer Cory Eberhard and I intend to find out just how spectacular their live show is this coming saturday. They just released a new album and the show at the National kicks off their new tour! Will I see you there?
