Riceboy Sleeps is the name chosen for the extremely talented duo of Sigur Ros’ vocalist Jón Þór Birgisson [Jonsi] and his partner Alex Somers. The two began organizing art exhibits under this name a few years ago, and only recently recorded music in Birgisson’s homeland of Iceland.
Their incredible 9 track album is available on their website, where you can also find examples of their collaborative art, films, a cooking show, and raw food recipe book [I can't wait to try the Super Smoothie]. The tracks are similar in style to Sigur Ros’ epic long, drawn out songs that start slow and build, using acoustic instrumental music. However, this album is much softer and more fragile than some of Sigur Ros’ music, mirroring a dream sequence. The album is a crystal clear, slow emotional tale that soothes the soul but may lull you to sleep [in the best way possible]. Not only is their music lovely but their other artistic ventures are sure to please. Plus, Iceland is probably the coolest place ever.
